We recently started the Whole30 program after a short 5 day cleanse. If you’ve never heard of this program before, it’s more of an elimination plan than a diet. The idea is to eliminate inflammatory foods like all grains and legumes, sugar, dairy, baked goods and processed foods. By eliminating these, the body can have a chance to reset and recuperate, the gut can have a chance not to be strained. This plan aims to kick sugar and carbohydrate cravings, and have a positive impact on certain lifestyle-related diseases and conditions. Read more here about it.
Because of certain lifestyle-related diseases in our home, we’re giving this a go. It’s difficult. It means no grains of any kind: no rice, quinoa, wheat, barley, oats. Nothing. It also means no dairy and sugar. Dairy is not a problem, but grains and sugars are tougher. We already tend to eat vegetables and meat for dinner without grains (despite our attempts to be vegetarian, it’s not going well), and lots of fruit, so dinners aren’t difficult. We are struggling with lunches and snacks. If there’s one tip I can give anyone attempting this plan, it’s to meal prep and have food ready to eat for lunches. Plan to use leftovers for lunches and that makes it easy.
Anyway, onto our roasted pork & sweet potatoes meal.
